LUCAP

A Clinical Quality Registry

LUCAP is a secure global repository collating de-identified data from hundreds of treating centres across Australia. Importantly, LUCAP does not collect data from patients directly but collates data from the dozens of disparate systems at participating hospitals and service providers. These data are collated and stored securely at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.

All data are securely managed in accordance with governance principles
of Clinical Quality Registries (CQR’s) with strict adherence to  National Health Data standards and principles.

“A clinical quality data platform for lung cancer is much needed in Australia to identify gaps and variations in approaches, and to ultimately improve the quality of care for patients, LUCAP will provide this”

Clinical indicators of quality care

From late 2022 to mid-2023, the LUCAP team led a group of clinicians, patient advocates, and researchers from Australia and New Zealand to complete a Delphi consensus process (read more about the process here) to determine clinical quality indicators relevant to thoracic oncology.

These indicators provide a benchmark for the quality of care data collected from hospitals participating in LUCAP. Our collaborations with patients and other stakeholders – such as Lung Foundation Australia – will continue as we develop LUCAP reports for clinicians and consumers based on these indicators.
